How
can I apply for a scholarship?
We
assist students who wish to apply for a ROC Ministry of Education
scholarship. Tests are given twice a year (in September and March) for
students applying for the scholarship. Students will be given more
information on application and test times in those months.
Additionally various governmental agencies in Taiwan (including the
Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Taipei
City Government) offer over 200 scholarships to students studying at
the MTC from countries with and without diplomatic relations with
Taiwan for the purpose of further enhancing cultural exchanges. The
MTC also offers scholarships to 40 students with excellent academic
performance each year.
Applicants must meet the following conditions:
-
Be students of the MTC.
-
Applicants must not be overseas Chinese currently studying in a
university in Taiwan, not hold an ROC passport, and not have ROC
citizenship (including dual citizenship).
-
Have been enrolled at
least 10 hours per week at the MTC during the previous three month
quarter.
-
Plan to enroll in at
least a ten-hour class at the MTC for another 6 months.
-
Obtain a monthly grade
no lower than 85%, not have studied at the MTC more than 3 years or
not have studied the same course material for three terms.
-
Applying for a second
6-month, students may not be enrolled in a class studying the same
materials he/she was studying when the first 6-month scholarship was
awarded.
-
Must be a dedicated
student of upright character without a negative record.
If
you have received this scholarship twice before, you may not apply
again. If you currently have a scholarship (1-year/half year/three
months), please do not apply.
These regulations are subject to amendment. In the event of any
discrepancies, the latest version of these regulations shall take
precedence.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
The MTC does not offer financial aid for students. However, twice a
year students in good standing may apply for a 6 month scholarship
offered by the Ministry of Education. Information about these
scholarships is given during orientation. For additional scholarship
information, applicants should contact the nearest ROC embassy,
consulate or representative office.
Applicants who have been awarded scholarships by the Ministry of
Education in their home country should note that funds are not
disbursed at the beginning of the term but at the end of the first
month and at the end of every subsequent month. Students should
therefore ensure that they have adequate funds available to pay school
fees (if not covered by the scholarship) and for their first month in
Taiwan. A minimum of US$1,500 or the equivalent is recommended. These
students are also reminded to send their MTC application materials to
the cultural division of the nearest ROC embassy, consulate, or
representative office.
Students applying for bank loans, loan deferments and the like should
bear in mind that the MTC is an extra-curricular, non-diploma granting
program and, as an extension of university, does not qualify as an
institute offering benefits requiring full-time student status.
