Tutorials may supplement a regular class load
and are usually arranged for less than ten hours per week. Due to
the large number of students at the MTC, tutorials are offered on a
limited basis, with advanced students being given priority.
Tutorials are dependent on teacher and classroom
availability.
Each term the MTC offers culture classes
designed to concentrate on certain aspects of Chinese art, history
and society. Classes include Peking Opera, Calligraphy, Painting,
Name Chop Carving, Taiwanese, Tea Customs, Chinese Culinary Art,
Chinese Martial Arts, Folk Singing, Chinese macramé and other
related subjects of interest. Classes are taught by professors from
respective NTNU departments and MTC instructors. These classes help
strengthen students' understanding of Chinese culture and will help
them make the most of their stay in Taiwan. Classes for the most
part are taught in Chinese.
Mandarin Phonetics is taught twice a day for
two hours during the first week of each quarter. Students unfamiliar
with the National Phonetic Symbols are strongly encouraged to attend
as this is the transcription system used at the MTC and is the most
widely used system in Taiwan. Chinese Radicals is taught twice a day
for two hours during the second week of each quarter. Students
interested in learning brush stroke order, categorization of
characters and the origins of some of the characters are encouraged
to attend.
